Welcome to 'Friends of Francis'
I’d like to first thank all of you who for the last 20+ years have supported the 'Friends of Francis' team. My family cannot put in words our gratefulness to the invaluable support that you’ve shown my family. Your love, generosity, and outpouring of support in memory of my son, Francis, are deeply appreciated!
On Sunday, June 11th, please join the 'Friends of Francis' team at ‘Hope-in-Motion’s Annual Walk Fundraising event. The 'Friends of Francis' team was formed 20 years ago after my son, Francis, died of osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) on March 12th 2003, two-and-half months after diagnosis. A family friend started the 'Friends of Francis' for this event that year in 2003. This is the 21st time that the 'Friends of Francis' is participating. Francis was ONLY 10 years old when he passed away, he would have been 31 years old this summer!
As many of you know, cancer does not stop – #cancerdoesnotstop – even during this unprecedented times! The Walk & Run is the signature event to raise funds that go directly to sustain the Bennett Cancer Center's integrative medicine program, which is free of charge to its patients. Funds raised are also used for its clinical trials program; art therapy program (through the Lauren Fund), rides to and from treatment, lunches during chemotherapy, nutrition and health programs, and grants to help them meet financial challenges. These programs are instrumental in supporting its patients, family members, co-workers, friends and neighbors when they are at their most vulnerable.
This year, the event will be in person on June 9th from 10AM-12PM.
The Walk is in person and will consist of a one mile walk around Mill River Park followed by a celebratory event. Attendees and teams will start on the grassy knoll adjacent to the carousel building continue around the outer park look ending on the main lawn. Directly following The Walk, will be a celebratory event.
For this year though my family though we have a team will be away on vacation but we still have big goals to help support cancer patients through their journey. 100% of your donation goes directly to patients and any amount is appreciated.
Participating in this event allows us to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and I thank you in advance for joining the 'Friends of Francis' team and keeping it alive and strong. It is you who make the team going on every year. The team spirit keeps the memory of my son, Francis, alive, that losing him to cancer help us realize that everyone is connected and that no one can survive this crisis alone.
Thanks,
Carlos Baldoz
